Additional activities - Introduction |

In May 2007, the Ministero per i Beni Culturali invited the Consortium, already in charged with undertaking the ‘Archeomar Project’, to commence a further series of activities, which was formalised through an additional amendment to the work. By January 2008 all of the newly assigned activities were concluded. The new investigations involved: additional new surveys with the aim of building upon the record of known underwater archaeological sites; further research or direct work on sites known through the previously conducted research. Specifically, the following research and activities were undertaken: - Taranto – Area of “Mar Grande” and “Mar Piccolo” – Survey of the seabed through the recording of anomalies and their subsequent verification through immersion, in accordance with the methodology defined by the ‘Archeomar Project’.
- Margherita di Savoia – Verification of new discoveries and their eventual recording.
- Gargano – Study and analysis of the development of the coastline and the seabed, with the aim of discovering structures related to the port, and their subsequent detailed recording.
- S.Caterina di Nardò – Work for the protection of a Roman shipwreck.
- Metaponto – Verification, through excavation, of the anomalies registered by the Sub- Bottom Profiler.
- Crotone – Survey of a medieval shipwreck; verification of new discoveries and the eventual recording of these new sites.
- Capri – Photogrammetry and detailed multi-beam survey of two Roman shipwrecks of the 1st and 4th centuries AD.
- Baccoli – Topographic survey of the Roman breakwater.
