The project involved the 4 southern regions of mainland Italy: Campania, Calabria, Puglia and Basilicata. The area, amongst the most significant in Italy in terms of its wealth of heritage, had yet to be subject to a systematic and scientific investigation and documentation of its maritime archaeology. Thanks to the Archeomar Project, as well as the identification of archaeological finds of great importance, the project has also put in place an infrastructure that can also be used within the local administration for the development of the territory and the creation of new possibilities within the economy and tourism.
